1:100 Context Model

(Grey Card - Existing)
(White Card - My new scheme)

I thought it was about time I modelled my scheme in a 3D context. The model helps to understand how the building responds to its surroundings, and incorporates certain parts such as the single story slice of the neighbouring buildings which form the hearst entrance and exit facilities.

1:20 Section Model update

(Plaster representations of primary structural elements)

The Plaster representations of my primary concrete structure have came out perfectly, however will need anothee couple of days to dry out/ cure properly before i begin the assembly.

Above is my facade into which i intend to sculpt doors and decorative perforations. However the quality of the plaster is fantastic, giving a perfect representation of the aesthetic I was looking for.

1:20 Section Model

Here is the cut I intend to take for my 1:20 structural solution. The primary structure in my case is the outer concrete casing, suggested through cast plaster shown opposite.

The casting procedure was a little bit of a nightmare, as the formers I initially used were not successful, and I under estimated the curing time. However, with my Primary structure cast as well as floor slab, I intend to leave these structures until sunday before they are removed from their formers. I now intend to use a now familiar modelling technique to produce the alabaster layers in wax once again.

1:20 Section Drawing

Precedent... Photoshopped collage

I love the above image, and intend to overlay trace and draw my section by hand to achieve a similar aesthetic.

The Memorial Diamond Factory, 1:20 Section

(ArchiCAD and photography collage finished on photoshop)

With my final design more or less confirmed, I have produced a section at 1:20 to then work in to by hand. The layout still feels as though there are three distinct areas, and although this is kind of the idea, they need to flow into one another more fluidly. This will be achieved by 'building up' the rear of the building, suggesting space and giving it presence.

The Memorial Diamond Factory, Model 1:50 proposal 2

(White spray finish on wax and polystyrene)

Here is my newest proposal at 1:50 scale. I felt the crit went very well, with good solid feedback and only minor alterations have to be made to the layout, but thankfully nothing drastic. The straight staircase is to be taken out in the garden, and further work into the facade taking influences from the various Luis Vuitton Buildings in Japan will in sue. I would also like to develop the faceting and polishing showroom, taking the idea of dissolved space further, and some time in the future add the existing context. My initial thoughts on this are to present the context in a state of ruin, maybe in plaster, as a symbol of the Factories ever lasting memorial to the site.
